FAQs
What is the SaND project?
Striking a New Deal is a new project working directly with community leaders and key stakeholders to drive better outcomes from the development of renewable and infrastructure projects in our regions. It is a joint initiative of The Next Economy, RE-Alliance, and the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal in partnership with ProjectsJSA.
Why is Council doing this now?
With renewable energy projects being proposed in and around Uralla Shire, we want to be proactive. This project helps ensure any future development is shaped by community priorities and delivers real benefits for our region.
Who is The Next Economy?
The Next Economy (TNE) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports regional communities to manage economic change. They are helping our Council to gather insights and facilitate local engagement.
What will the project lead to?
The engagement will inform a local strategy that outlines what “good development” looks like in Uralla, based on your feedback. This plan will help guide how our Council advocates for and manages future renewable energy-related development.
Will my feedback really make a difference?
Yes. Community input is essential to ensure that the resulting plan reflects local values and priorities. Council will use this feedback to engage with developers and advocate for outcomes that benefit Uralla Shire.
Does Council decide whether renewable energy projects go ahead?
No. Council does not have the authority to approve or stop renewable energy developments. However, we can influence how they are delivered, including negotiating for community benefits and planning for local impacts.
